Sharon Andrea Choa, a distinguished conductor from Hong Kong, has captivated audiences around the world with her dynamic interpretations and profound musical insight. Her journey began at an early age, fueled by a passion for music that led her to study at prestigious institutions, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and King's College London.
As a trailblazer in the classical music scene, Choa has collaborated with prominent orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, St. Petersburg Camerata and the London Symphony Orchestra, bringing her unique style and vision to the podium. Her performances are characterised by an intricate balance of technical precision and emotional depth, inviting listeners to experience each note with renewed fervor.
In addition to her concert work, Choa is dedicated to music education and outreach, believing in the transformative power of music to inspire future generations. She has joint hands with her mentors Sir Colin Davis and Maestro Jiří Bĕlohlávek to hold workshops in the UK, and has held masterclasses and orchestral training programmes across Asia and beyond, nurturing young talents and fostering a love for classical music.
With numerous accolades to her name, including awards from the British Council, Arts Council England, British Academy, Arts & Academy Research Council, and major funding from the corporate sector, Choa continues to redefine the boundaries of classical music. Her upcoming album promises to showcase her depth of musical knowledge, blending passion with a refined sensitivity that befits the collaboration with a world-class orchestra and soloist.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Sharon is an avid practitioner of Qigong and Taiji and a keen student of Chinese calligraphy. She follows the teachings of Zen Buddhism, particularly with the Kwan Um School, and is currently a student at the Su Bong Zen Monastery under the guidance of Zen Master Dae Kwan.
